José Antonio Orts

Born in 1955 in Meliana (Valencia), lives and works there

José Antonio Orts creates electronical sound and light sculptures, sending sound and light into space supplied by the environmental energy.

José Antonio Orts develops fragile light and sound objects. He transforms movements and light of surrounding space into tonal sounds and/or light reflections by small photovoltaic cells and condensers. Thus he achieves visual and acoustic Haiku-effects, unfolding to the beholder only in his own experience.

His works are minimalistic reductions to the smallest amount of elements that define the form due to their function. They get an optimal lightness, corresponding to the acoustical or visual intension, but always staged and animated by the movement and the light in the environment.

Sophisticated, crossing or enlacing bows/lines (wires), small silvery-grey or black boxes (photovoltaic cells) and tiny light dots (LEDs) only at first sight might seem technoid; they raise great fascination with the beholder, who becomes part of the work by his own activity; by his gestures and movements he dominates the rhythm of the light or sound harmonies.
