Tom Früchtl

Born in 1966 in Munich, lives and works in Berlin (D)

Studied at the Academy of fine Arts in Munich

Tom Früchtl is a painter sui generis.

As usual in former centuries in his paintings Früchtl depicts objects of the natural world, and thus he satisfies a special position in the edition YC. Indeed he paints his depiction on the depicted object itself, effacing it or rather its visibility by the representation. What looks like wood structure f.ex. really is painted wood structure on the surface of the original wood.

Früchtl is under the spell of the great tradition of the trompe-l’œil painting, dilates it perfidiously and ingeniously. But he never terminates the head fake. Only temporarily the viewer is taken in by this deceit.
